But, it is a rare occasion that there is more than one commonality lurking inthe varied projects highlighted. This month was one of those exceptions and I am more thanhappy with the outcome. Trust me, it was not a conscious decision, but it so happens that thefive firms we feature inCenterstageare first timers with the magazine. Further, three of the fivespaces were also crafted for young professionals. But let me first tell you about the New Delhihome of the Jains which was remodelled by An-V-Thot Architects — it now wears a modernavatar to welcome a new member into the family. The Bangalore home of the Ethirajans isbig-hearted — it makes more than enough room for architecture firm BetweenSpaces on itstop two floors and is also home to one of the firm’s principal architects. This open, airyand beautiful space is natural to the core in its use of materials, but also celebratescontemporary architecture. The two eateries we feature have a lot in common — they both were created for young clients, have a casual yet vivacious feel, consider the youth as their core clients and serve fast foods.Thankfully, each is located in a different city and won’t be competing for attention. The funkyand graffiti-laden Fat Kid Deli, designed by Studio Node, is situated at Vashi in Navi Mumbai, and interestingly, is the first project for both the client and the architects. Renesa Architects’creation takes inspiration from the process of pizza making and renders an industrial, yetcolourful look to the Instapizza outlet at Gurgaon. The cover story, an office for two younglawyers in Mumbai, throws type-casting out of its large beautiful windows to embrace architectRubel Dhuna’s lovely, charming and practical design with open arms. I am sure, the compact280-square-foot office, which uses soft hues, minimal materials and handpicked artwork andaccessories, is a calming oasis for the lawyers after long gruelling sessions at court. This brings me to the gorgeous spreads (Parade) of designer surfaces we have collated for youfrom well-known manufacturers and importers. Each and every piece here is eye-candy. And ifyou want to know about what’s happening in the flooring world — new trends, designs, collections, materials and technological advancements — don’t miss out on the well-researchedIn Focusarticle.
