T
his morning I woke up to the
the burden, strain and aggravation that comes
with raising children, is all part of the great
journey. You will forget in 20 years that Johnny bit
Susie or they Kelly was skipping class the entire
irst week. You will forget about the homework
and reading assignments, you will forget about
the calculus that came back to haunt you for a
second time, you will forget about everything.
In the big, hind sight is 20/20, and not a single
one of those miniscule things will matter. You
will only miss the “little” version they once were.
Wishing you had held them just a little longer.
As all you parents settle back into your
routine or develop a new one, remember, with
all transitions things never go according to plan,
expect the unexpected, go with the low, dodge
the bullets and roll with the punches. Life is
too short to give into stress, grief or drama. Just take a deep
breath, maybe a shot of vodka and keep on, keeping on. Find
the humor or lessons in the headaches. Look at things with
the realization that it will all be over before you know it, leaving
you to sit and wonder. Then, when all else fails, grab your
favorite vice, head to your favorite spot and just sit a while,
take in some cleaning fresh air and search for the Bumble
Bees. Have a little change of perspective. Pretty sure when
you return you will see things differently.
Until Next Month, Stay Between the Ditches & Keep the
Shiny Side Up!
vivid visually organic delight
of freshly bloomed Philippine
Violet’s swarming with happy bumble
bees, two of Nature’s precious wonders;
beautiful reminders of the soothing natural
treasures around us. Now, if only we can
make the time to sit still long enough to
enjoy them.
For the past two weeks, I have
watched frantic parents rush around
wrecking havoc preparing for the new
school year. The Kindergarten Moms
emotional wrecks, the Middle School
Moms so proud, the High School Moms
just hoping their kids don’t mess up and,
the College Moms, joining the emotional
sector with Kindergarten. Then, there are Moms like me, sitting
back and wondering where the time went. There were no kids
to get ready for school, no backpacks to buy. No school lunches
to pack, it was business as usual, just another work week.
Sitting there, you can’t help but relect
in the years past, just where did the
time go? It seems like just yesterday
I was driving him to Kindergarten now
he is grown, gone and working on his
future. It truly is amazing how quickly
time passes.
So before they are gone, and
you are left wondering what the hell
happened to the last 20 years of
your life, embrace them, slow the hell
down a little. Cut out the yelling and
screaming and take a deep breath. All
In the end these things matter most: How well
did you love? How fully did you love? How
deeply did you learn to let go? - Buddha
